IT'S A GIRL! SOPHIA ROSE!

Sophia Rose was born February 5th, 2009 at 11:13 am, after about 33 hours of labor, and 20 minutes of pushing :) We will leave out the gorey (sp?) details, unless you ask! We are all very happy and a bit tired still! We did/do have a bit of a concern because we found out that she has a cleft palate. This means the roof of her mouth is basically missing, instead of being hard it is all soft and there is no good barrier, or one at all really, between her mouth and her nose. But, she has been eating well though from a "sippy cup" and this morning she actually drank from a modified bottle this morning called a Haberman bottle. This bottle allows her to suck gently to get the milk and she was swallowing well also!! She is probably going to be let to go home today, depending on what the pediatric cardiologist from the citied says about her echo that was done yesterday after she was born. Sometimes when babies have a cleft palate they also have heart or/and kidney abnormalities. Her kidney ultrasound came back normal and she has urinated so that means they are working!
She is very beautiful and we are so blessed! She slept well last night, and ate well last night. she "snores" like Grandpa Pete right now, but the speech pathologist said that we should lie her on her side to help with her breathing. We cannot believe that we have created, with God this beautiful, beautiful little girl!! She has a body like her Daddy long and lean! Also, she has hair that is lighter brown/blonde, dark eyes right now, the cutest little nose and her Mommy's chin! Actually, Tanner called the chin to be Mommy's at the 21 week ultrasound!  We have had a few visitors, Grandma Goodie and Grandpa Pete came up from Brainerd Grandma stayed and Grandpa had to go home later that night because he had to work today, but is probably coming up with Uncle Matthew tonight after work. Also, the Lelwica family is coming up tonight after Amy gets off work and they are staying the weekend for a little mini vacation, we are very excited to see them! We had a few friends drop by the hospital as well yesterday, a few co-workers, and Talia was nice enough to bring us a good lunch, which was VERY appreciated!
Today we are just hanging out and getting a schedule down with feeding and whatnot. Getting to meet our MDs and get cleared by everyone to go home today. We will probably leave the hospital later this PM to go home and relax at home and figure out everything there, which will be nice. Hospital beds and recliners are not the most comfortable pieces of furniture to sleep in! We will keep everyone posted about our new little blessing! We are going to be going down to the U for her cleft palate as they have a specialty clinic or something like that there for her to be treated. Her dentation and jaw and lips are all good, it is just her palate that is the most effected right now, and should be an "easy"fix. So, we are hopeful! We welcome all the prayers people would like to offer up for our daughter, and for us as well :) We added more photos so check them out, and congrats to the 14 people who voted girl...you were right!!! :) Much Love!
